Behavioral Technical

My interview at Union Pacific was pretty good, really professional and structured, but still friendly. They asked a lot of behavioral questions, and also looked at my technical skills, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. Communication was clear, the interviewers were supportive, and I got to talk about my projects and experience. It was a good experience!

You start with a presentation with others, then have a one-on-one. If you're picked, you get the job. My start date got delayed a month, and I only found out when I showed up for training. It was a company mistake, but imagine if you lived far away and had to deal with that hassle. They keep telling you 'DO NOT GIVE NOTICE OF RESIGNATION to current employer! You are not guaranteed an offer or have you received an offer of employment from the Union Pacific!'. They don't give you an official offer but grant access once classes are scheduled. Getting reimbursed initially is a fight. Expect to wait three months to get paid, and don't believe anything they say about wages.

First, there were two online timed exams, one for personality and one for logic, which took a couple of hours and were medium difficulty. Then, a 30-minute virtual 1-on-1 with a Senior Recruiter involved scenario questions in STAR format. They let you know if you move on in a few days. After that, a 30-minute virtual 3-on-1 panel interview with the hiring manager and a facility manager focused on leadership and scenario questions, also in STAR format. Within a week, a formal offer was extended, followed by a background check and medical exam. The whole process from application to offer took about a month.
