Software Engineer
First, an online assessment (OA). Then, a chill HR call asking about you and your experiences. Finally, a mixed behavioral and technical round. For the behavioral part, focus on your resume. The technical part involves a LeetCode easy-medium question.
- Can you describe your experience listed on your resume from Company X?
- What were your contributions at Company X, and what was the resulting impact?
Pricing Analyst
The recruiter was the only good contact, very honest and transparent about the company's state and issues. The three team members I met were just 'ok,' lacking enthusiasm, which made me unenthused. For a new role, they should make candidates feel like they're joining a world-class team, even if the company has old ways of working. They hit me with very technical Excel questions, which is a stressful way to test intelligence. They sprung an Excel test on me in the final interview with no warning, which is crazy. Things can be taught; what matters is if someone fits and can handle the job.
- How do you calculate margin?
- What would be your approach to pricing a bottle of wine?
- Can you explain price elasticity?
Sales Associate
Applied online and then came in to talk to a floor manager about my interest. They scheduled an in-person interview. I brought a resume, but they could also generate it from my online application. The interview was informal and held in a cramped, locked-off office. I only spoke with one floor manager, not the GM. Since I knew they needed to hire quickly, it worked to my advantage for a fast process. There was a long wait for background check clearance from HR, who are located out of state, even though it only takes a phone call. HR informed me it had been approved two weeks prior.
- Could you tell me a bit about yourself?
- What past experiences do you have that are most relevant to this role?
Store Manager
I originally applied for a Store Manager position, and had a preliminary call with a recruiter where I talked about my 5 years of experience as a store manager. The interview was supposed to be in person but got rescheduled to a Zoom call with the District Manager. It turns out they weren't actually hiring for a Store Manager and the role was for an Assistant Manager. They explained the job would involve 10-hour shifts, hourly pay, and unlimited overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The benefits were attractive, but I decided not to pursue it because it felt like a step down. It was disappointing to apply for one role and find out they were recruiting for a different, lower-level position.
- Can you share an instance where you attempted to counsel an employee, but it didn't work out, leading to their termination?
- Describe a situation where you had to deal with a challenging customer.
