Software Engineer
The hiring process for Senior roles is really out of sync with the 2-3 hour window they give for the take-home assessment. They say it's a quick task, but you have to build a whole full-stack app, including the UI, database, and deployment. And you have to do it with a basic template that doesn't even have things like Jest or Linting set up. It's tough to show seniority and good test coverage when you're stuck setting up the environment for so long. After spending a lot of unpaid time on a deployable app, I got a standard rejection email with no useful feedback, which just felt like they didn't value my time or skills.
- The take-home assessment involves creating a full-stack application similar to 'Twitter', deploying it, and adding a chosen 'show-off' feature from a given selection.
SRE Engineer
The Talent Acquisition team handled the interview process very professionally. They asked about my resume and some behavioral questions. They also provided detailed answers on what it's like to work at the company. The hiring manager was consulted the next day, but they decided to go with another candidate.
- Would you be open to completing a take-home coding assignment?
- Tell me about the most challenging project you've worked on.
- What aspects of your previous job did you find most enjoyable?
Frontend Engineer
The interview process started with a 45-minute initial chat about my current/most recent job and my reasons for seeking a new opportunity. Following that, there was a take-home assignment that ended up taking more time than initially suggested. After submitting the take-home, I had a longer, 1.5-hour interview where we discussed my past experience in more detail. They sent over some articles to help prepare for each stage, which was helpful, although not all the topics in the articles were covered during the interviews.
- Regarding your previous role or company, what aspects did you find most appealing?
- Conversely, what did you like least about your previous role or company?
- Can you explain your motivations for seeking a new position?
Marketing Specialist
It was a really thorough process, honestly. It had 5 steps: First, a 30-minute call with the Talent team. Then, a 1-hour interview with the recruiter, manager, and senior manager. After that, there was a take-home test that was supposed to be 1-2 hours, but I ended up spending at least 5 hours on it. The next part was a 3-hour Topgrading interview with the same three people. It was super long, but we really got into my past experiences, and they asked for lots of examples. I was pretty stressed about the length, but it felt really natural and I actually enjoyed getting to know them. Finally, they did a reference check, asking for 3 references, 2 past managers and my current one. Since my current manager didn't know I was looking, I wasn't comfortable with that and told them. We agreed to just use the 2 previous managers' references.
- When you share an example, be ready to go into more detail because they will ask follow-up questions for each situation you describe.
