The hiring process for Senior roles is really out of sync with the 2-3 hour window they give for the take-home assessment. They say it's a quick task, but you have to build a whole full-stack app, including the UI, database, and deployment. And you have to do it with a basic template that doesn't even have things like Jest or Linting set up. It's tough to show seniority and good test coverage when you're stuck setting up the environment for so long. After spending a lot of unpaid time on a deployable app, I got a standard rejection email with no useful feedback, which just felt like they didn't value my time or skills.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • The take-home assessment involves creating a full-stack application similar to 'Twitter', deploying it, and adding a chosen 'show-off' feature from a given selection.

Technical Behavioral Coding

It was a great interview experience. Thinkific do their due diligence to ensure people applying are a great fit. I filled out pre-screening interview questions, then I was asked to interview with a Hiring Manager and an Engineering Manager over hangouts with cameras off. I then completed a take home assignment. After that it was a 3 hour top grading interview with the Hiring Manager and another Engineering Manager. It was a easy flowing discussion about my work history, challenges I experienced, feedback I received and how I responded to that.

Technical Coding

It started with a general interview to get a feel for my profile and background, and included a few technical questions. Then, I was sent a technical challenge that involved working with a base code in specific packages and very specific code, which took a lot of time to understand. Honestly, it felt like a waste of time because the evaluation wasn't fair. They claimed it would take 5 hours, but it ended up taking my whole weekend. I also ran into problems with the base code during the deployment phase on a server. My advice is to not bother with this technical challenge.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Tell me about your technical background and why you're interested in this position.
