So, the interview had 3 rounds. First, there was an initial screening round where they asked about my last two roles and initiatives I took, and discussed salary at the end. If I fit the range and they liked me, I got a Full Stack Development assignment with a NextJS and Prisma starter kit, and had 7 days to complete it. After submission, the engineers checked the assignment thoroughly, they really care about code quality. If I passed that, I was told about the final interview, which was a topgrading round. They went through my entire work history, talking about positive and negative points of each role and what my managers would say about me. They also gave feedback on my assignment. The HR shared what to expect for both rounds and sent medium articles. If I passed, I got the offer and was asked for references. They take reference checks seriously. I had to invite 3 references to a platform for reviews, and my most recent manager was called for a 40-45 minute phone call. Others got questions via the platform. If all went well, I got the final offer. The team was flexible with scheduling and reference submission.
- What would your managers say about you regarding all your past roles?
- Tell me about a time you took initiative.
- What are your reasons for leaving your previous employment or considering leaving your current one?

I applied online and got a referral, so I skipped the initial phone screen which is usually part of the process. Then, I had to do a coding challenge, which was the most important part. They said if you do well on that, the rest is easy. The challenge itself isn't too hard, but it's crucial to write clean code. The developers really look through it and note everything. If that goes well, you get invited for a 2-hour interview where they really dig into your past experiences and ask what you learned from each role.
- Could you construct a REST API that handles user registration and login, storing a unique number for each user? It should include an endpoint to increment this number and another to reset it to a specified value. A user interface is optional, and you can use any programming language.

After filling out their application, I was contacted by Thinkific with a take-home assignment. I had 5 days to complete it. The assignment was pretty difficult, requiring the use of third-party authorizations and a database. I put a lot of effort into it and felt I did a great job, even including tests and documentation beyond what was asked. However, I didn't proceed to an interview. Their rejection notice explained they didn't move forward because "The team was confused why you chose a technology you were not familiar with." I did this because I believed it was the right choice for the task and to show I could learn. This is an interview, after all! They never gave me a chance to discuss my approach, just rejected me. I put in about 15 hours for the application and take-home, and never even got to speak with anyone at Thinkific. Given how I was treated and how my time was disregarded, I can't recommend applying to Thinkific.
- The take-home assignment required the implementation of third-party authorization and database usage.
