First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at TCS.
Software Engineer
My interview call came early. The first round was Technical + Managerial. I greeted the panel members and they asked me to sit. For around 5 seconds, we just smiled at each other, probably to make me feel comfortable. Since I had attended other interviews before, I wasn’t that nervous. I broke the silence by asking if I could introduce myself. They said yes, and I gave a brief intro covering my educational qualifications, technical skills, on-site internship, and my projects. Overall, it was a smooth and friendly process. Anyone preparing should revise their projects, brush up on OOPS, basic HTML/CSS (if you have mentioned Web Development in your resume), and be ready for both technical and casual conversations.
- Could you discuss questions based on your resume and the projects you mentioned?
- Can you explain pointers in OOPS?
- What is the difference between an array and a list in OOPS?
NINJA Profile
The interview process was moderate. The questions asked were basically from my resume, my background, and my locality, and it was really good. But I don't know what went wrong, and it's been 8 months since, and I haven't received any update regarding whether I'm selected or not. I guess it is kind of rejection, and this thing is really annoying. There is some hope that remains in the mind, and the job situation is so bad right now, the job market literally sucks. I wish I haven't opted this career path.
- Can you tell me about your resume and background?
- What are the basics of Python?
Systems Engineer
The interview was just one round, and it had both HR and technical parts. They started by asking me some HR questions about my background, what I want to do in my career, and why I applied here. Then, the technical part was all about my projects, especially the one where I built a resume screening system using an LLM. I had to talk about the system's architecture, how I picked the model, how I designed the prompts, what metrics I used to evaluate it, and how I deployed it. They also wanted to see if I understood Large Language Models well, the difficulties of putting them into practice, and if I could solve problems. It felt pretty structured and was a decent challenge overall.
- Could you explain the working principles of Large Language Models and how you incorporated an LLM into your resume screening project, including your methods for prompt engineering, addressing bias, ensuring scalability, and assessing the accuracy of candidate-job matching?
- Can you tell me about how Large Language Models function and how you integrated an LLM into your resume screening project, specifically regarding prompt engineering, bias mitigation, scalability, and evaluating the accuracy of candidate-job matching?
Ninja
TCS Ninja hiring is pretty structured and predictable, which actually works in your favor if you prepare smartly. The process usually starts with an online test that has three sections: Numerical Ability, Verbal Ability, and Reasoning Ability, along with basic Programming/MCQs and sometimes coding questions (easy–moderate level, often C/C++/Java/Python). Candidates who clear the test are called for an interview, which is a single integrated round covering technical, managerial, and HR aspects. In the interview, they mainly check fundamental programming concepts (OOPs, DBMS, OS, basics of DSA), problem-solving approach, understanding of projects or internships, and your communication and attitude. HR questions focus on flexibility, willingness to learn, relocation, and long-term commitment to TCS. Overall, TCS Ninja interviews are less about deep theory and more about clarity of basics, confidence, and cultural fit, so being calm, honest, and structured in answers matters a lot.
- Can you discuss any projects you've worked on and any challenges encountered?
- Tell me about a challenging situation you experienced during a project.
