First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at O'Reilly Auto Parts.
Staff Accountant
My experience with the recruiters at this company was quite negative. The first recruiter went silent after my second interview, and it turns out she's no longer with the company, which wasn't a surprise. The second recruiter canceled my interview just 25 minutes beforehand because they had already filled the position, and they didn't even offer an apology. This might explain why they have poor employer ratings, as their talent acquisition and possibly HR departments seem disorganized.

Strategic Program Manager
So, I had this interview with O’Reilly for a Strategic Program Manager role at their HQ. The first interview was with a recruiter via Google Meet, and honestly, it felt unprofessional. The recruiter was dressed very casually, and the interview was basically a quiz on industry acronyms, not really about my experience. They asked things like 'define the main components of a SOW,' but didn't explain acronyms or give feedback. It felt like they were just reading a script. After that, the recruiter said my responses would go to their boss, and there would be two more phone/video rounds, followed by an in-person interview at the office. They said they'd get back to me the next week, but didn't. A week after that, I followed up by email and got no response. A whole month later, I sent one last email, and still nothing. They completely ghosted me after promising an update within a week. It’s really unprofessional not to let candidates know where they stand, especially after a video interview. This makes me wonder if they train their recruiters or if they just don't care about being respectful. Honestly, if this is how they treat potential employees, I might have dodged a bullet.

Store Manager
I received multiple calls from a recruiter who didn't leave voicemails. When I finally answered, he mentioned he'd been trying to reach me. I questioned why he didn't leave a message, and he ignored it. He then sent a link for references, which I didn't complete. The district manager, who knew one of my coworkers, called them to ask about me. I found this highly unprofessional since I hadn't even had a formal interview yet, and this coworker wasn't on my referral list. This created an uncomfortable work environment without my consent. I withdrew my application due to this poor experience. I called to express my dissatisfaction, but the recruiter seemed unconcerned. The next day, I got another call with no voicemail. I returned the call, and the hiring manager canceled our scheduled interview due to a scheduling conflict. I informed him I had withdrawn my application and was unaware of any scheduled interview. Their recruitment process is disorganized and unprofessional, which was a complete turn-off, and I'm glad I avoided this job.
- No questions were asked.
Frontend Software Engineer
It was a pretty easy process. There were only 2 rounds before they made a final decision. First, a recruiter call where they asked for basic info and about my background. They went over the job details to see if I was interested. It was a typical first call. Then, I had a take-home coding exercise. It involved one JS and the other was CSS/styling. The next round was with 3-4 people. I forget their exact roles, but some were engineers and others were not. It was round robin questions about the tech stack, coding, past projects, testing, etc. Nothing too out of the ordinary. I thought I did pretty well, but I wasn't offered the position in the end.
- Can you describe how you approach testing in various situations?
