First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Niantic.
Marketing Manager
It was 5 rounds of interviews, all online with people from various countries across the region. The interview format ranges from Q&A to a short brainstorming session. They don't ask you typical questions like "what are you strengths and weaknesses", etc. They rather dive into your resume.
- Can you outline your approach to solving a specific challenge we're currently facing?
Software Engineer Intern
Last year, I went through the interview process for the 2025 summer internship. The first round involved one interviewer, and the second round consisted of two interviews back-to-back. It was pretty standard, with LC-style coding challenges. I interviewed in November and didn't hear back until January, which was a bit frustrating due to the long wait. I'm guessing there were a lot of internal changes happening because of the acquisition.
- Medium-difficulty LeetCode-style coding problems were presented.
UX Designer
I applied for a UX designer role and, although I didn't get an offer, the interview experience was great. The manager was welcoming from the start, and the whole process felt professional and friendly. The interviews were clear and engaging, with interviewers who were clearly knowledgeable and passionate, showing they really wanted the right person for the team. I especially liked the focus on cultural fit, and the conversations felt natural. The feedback I got was helpful and constructive. It's obvious the company puts effort into making sure candidates have a good experience.
- Can you design a mental health app for mobile that focuses on user privacy and personalized therapy, and also connects to wearables for biometric tracking and live feedback?
Data Scientist
The interview process was standard for this company. It included a take-home assignment followed by a technical interview. A major downside of the company is their hiring team's approach; even with a strong interview performance, candidates are often rejected without any specific feedback, which is quite disappointing. Receiving a generic rejection email instead of understanding the reasons for not being selected is seen as highly unprofessional.
- Discuss your suitability for the role.
- Let's follow up on your take-home assignments.
- Can you answer basic SQL Join questions?
