Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Niantic.
Data Scientist
The interview process was standard for this company. It included a take-home assignment followed by a technical interview. A major downside of the company is their hiring team's approach; even with a strong interview performance, candidates are often rejected without any specific feedback, which is quite disappointing. Receiving a generic rejection email instead of understanding the reasons for not being selected is seen as highly unprofessional.
- Discuss your suitability for the role.
- Let's follow up on your take-home assignments.
- Can you answer basic SQL Join questions?
Data Scientist Intern
First, I had to complete a take-home challenge that involved the pokemon dataset. After submitting that, I had an interview where they asked me some easy to medium LeetCode SQL questions and also had me walk through my take-home challenge. They asked a lot of questions about my challenge.
- Could you please walk me through the take-home challenge you completed and detail the steps you took?
- Please explain the steps you took for your take-home challenge.
- Can you discuss your approach to the take-home challenge?
Data Scientist
Honestly, don't bother interviewing here unless you're a data engineer looking to avoid ML/data science. They clearly don't respect your time, with HR being super slow to respond and needing lots of nudging. They didn't give any feedback on the 48-hour take-home assignment and rejected me even though my answers were correct.
- 48 hr Take home assignments on ML Modelling
- LC - easy-medium SQL questions
