First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Niantic.
Software Engineer
It was good; the first interview was a screening where they asked a lot of background questions and outlined the job details. It was relatively easy to answer. Niantic is a Hybrid-First work environment: this means that employees are expected to be in-office 2 days a week.

Software Engineer Intern
Last year, I went through the interview process for the 2025 summer internship. The first round involved one interviewer, and the second round consisted of two interviews back-to-back. It was pretty standard, with LC-style coding challenges. I interviewed in November and didn't hear back until January, which was a bit frustrating due to the long wait. I'm guessing there were a lot of internal changes happening because of the acquisition.
- Medium-difficulty LeetCode-style coding problems were presented.
Software Engineer
The interview experience at Niantic was great. The recruiters, Jessica and Ileana, were super friendly and helpful, and most of the communication and scheduling was fast. There were a couple of weeks where I had to wait to hear back about the next steps. First, I had a 1-hour coding interview with a senior engineer that mixed behavioral and coding questions. Then came the onsite interviews, which included 1 behavioral, 2 coding, and 1 mixed interview, led by the engineering manager and some team members. The behavioral part covered personal skills, situations, and what I'm looking for in a company. The coding questions were similar to LeetCode problems but clearer, and others focused on core concepts. Finally, there were two more behavioral interviews, one with someone from a different team and another with a senior producer. These mostly repeated earlier questions, emphasizing my career goals and self-awareness of strengths and weaknesses. Overall, the people were really nice and made the long process as smooth as possible.
- What's an area you're actively working on improving?
- What do you seek in a potential employer?
