First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Niantic.
Social Media Specialist
When interviewing for this role, I talked with many people I would be working with, both directly and indirectly. Most of my interviews felt like natural conversations. The whole process took about two months, mainly due to circumstances beyond my control and Niantic's. I figure it normally would have taken a month. It was a bit strange to have a casual chat with several employees, which wasn't really an interview but more of a chance to get to know people at Niantic better. This helped me feel more sure that Niantic was a place I'd like to work.
- For a game you're currently playing, please review the latest social media discussions about it on Twitter.
- Could you create 3-5 brand guidelines for this social media handle? These guidelines should cover both planned announcements and how to respond to engagement.
Social Media Manager
The recruiter I talked to at Niantic was really nice and gave me a lot of info about what a typical day is like there. She was easy to reach by email and always got back to me quickly. She really seemed to capture the exciting vibe at Niantic and was passionate about their projects.
- Can you walk me through your previous roles and experience?
Community Manager
I had a really bad interview experience. The interviewer spent most of the time telling me I was wrong and that it takes a specific type of person to deal with the negativity in the Pokemon Go community. It felt like he was saying I couldn't handle it, which was weird since I told him I'm an active player and already part of the community. In the end, I realized this job wasn't for me and I didn't want to work for a company that talks about its community like that.
- They asked some really simple questions.
- The only difficult part was trying to answer him while his team's chat was constantly making noise.
