The initial phone screen seemed to be conducted by an AI, though it wasn't explicitly confirmed. It was a Microsoft Teams call with audio only, and the questions felt very scripted and impersonal. There were noticeable pauses between questions, likely for the interviewer to type up my answers for the hiring manager. Some questions seemed irrelevant to the role, like asking about customer experience for a lab scientist position when the job description didn't mention any customer interaction. The advertised salary range was misleading; it appeared to be the state's market average, and the actual budget for the job was significantly lower than the upper end of the posted range, which felt disrespectful. There was also no chance to ask my own questions as a candidate. Overall, it was a terrible candidate experience.

So the interview for the Manufacturing Intern at MilliporeSigma was pretty straightforward. I applied internally and got a call about a week later to set up a virtual chat with the hiring manager. It was a mix of technical and behavioral stuff, mostly about how I solve problems, my past lab work, and if I can handle teamwork. I got to explain my research and how it could fit into semiconductor manufacturing. The interviewer was cool, asked good questions, and was happy to chat about what it's like there and what the internship is about.

The interview process was set up quickly, but after it was done, I didn't hear back from the recruiting team. I followed up by emailing my contact multiple times over two weeks and also emailed the NA recruiter email, but still no reply. MilliporeSigma should think about hiring recruiters who are better at following up, because this lack of communication isn't typical with other companies after interviews.

It started with a recruiter reaching out after I applied. The first interview was standard until the recruiter admitted that his Lead wanted to interview me, but he wasn't sure about me because I had lowballed my salary expectations, thinking I lacked competence or confidence. I reassured him. The second interview with the Lead went well; we discussed my background and languages. The only direct question was about a problem I faced and solved. The Lead said I'd meet two other Principal designers and then they'd vote. Monday and Tuesday passed without a follow-up. I emailed the Lead, the recruiter, and the assistant, but got no response. It's been two weeks, and I gave up last week. It's unprofessional.
