First I talked to the recruiter, who was really helpful. They told me about the company, what they expected for the role, and basically everything I needed to know to decide if I wanted to move forward. They also really pushed me to practice leetcode because they said the next interview would be coding questions. But then, in the second call, the interviewer asked me about system design, not coding. I'm not sure if they did this on purpose or by mistake, but it makes me wonder if they're even sure what questions they want to ask.

Behavioral Technical

The interview process wasn't great. I wanted to share this review in case others have a bad experience, so you know it's not you. The first two stages (Recruiter screen and Hiring Manager interview) were good. But then in the third round, I talked to someone from the larger team. My interviewer seemed unprepared, and the interview format was totally different from what the recruiter had told me. It was hard to follow their questions, even when I asked for clarification, and the thought exercises weren't well-planned and felt all over the place. Honestly, it felt like the interview was set up to fail from the beginning.

Behavioral Technical Coding

I had two interviews, first with HR, then with the CEO. The CEO interview was good, but I felt ageism might have been a factor. After that, I received an open-ended test with no time limit, but I was asked to complete it soon. I worked on it that same evening for 2-3 hours. This was in late 2018 or 2019. The test covered Windows, Unix/Linux, and programming in Powershell and Bash. I'm confident my answers were correct or good enough. The final question was a project to design and set up an online conference room, which I have experience with. I provided a very detailed design and setup process, working overnight on it. I submitted it around 6 pm. I felt I was the ideal candidate unless someone else did better on the test. I was prepared for rejection but not the quick, generic rejection email I received the next day, which I found unbelievable. I responded to HR suspecting age discrimination and dishonesty in their process, but received no reply. I consider Hopper an unreliable and dishonest company.

Behavioral Technical Case

I applied online and first spoke with the hiring manager. It was a pretty chill chat, but also gave me a good idea of what the job involves. I liked the vibe and thought it would be cool to work with them. We managed to set up a technical interview for the next day, which went okay, and involved looking at a few case studies. Sadly, someone else got the job, so I couldn't move forward. Still, it felt like a decent chat and I didn't feel like I wasted my time.

Given a list of Passenger objects, each with a name, loyalty class (integer), and group (string), how would you order them? The ordering should prioritize higher loyalty passengers. Additionally, passengers within the same group should be ordered together, meaning a passenger with a lower loyalty class still moves up if they share a group with another passenger who has a higher loyalty class. Essentially, group passengers by their group and then order these groups based on the highest loyalty class found within each group.
