The interview process began with a take-home assignment. Following that, there was a phone call with HR, which was a bit unusual. Next, the first technical interview involved discussing my design and solution. A bit of a bummer, there was over a week between submitting the assignment and the interview, making it hard to remember code specifics. I asked HR if I could review my submission beforehand, but they said it wasn't needed. However, the engineer during the interview asked me to add 'production-level' improvements and discuss possible code changes, which definitely needed a code review first! This led to avoidable delays and confusion. A heads-up: save a copy of your code before submitting. Don't take HR's advice.

I did the first interview and it felt good. They said my answers were good and that the team would tell me about the next steps. But it's been over 3 weeks and I haven't heard anything or gotten an update. I know hiring can take a while, but I wish they'd communicated better or at least given me a quick update. So, the first interview was good, but not hearing back after they said I would made it feel unfinished.

It was only one interview with the senior manager of the analytics team. The interview was 30 minutes long, even though the email mentioned 45 minutes. No technical questions were asked. You'll get an interview request after the application deadline, about a month after applying. It's a remote position, even if the job posting lists Vancouver or Toronto. If you're selected, they'll contact you within a week of the interview; otherwise, assume you weren't selected. HR won't respond if you email them after that week. Around 20-25 days post-interview, you'll get a general rejection email, with no feedback. The rejection email comes from HR, not the manager. During the interview, the manager uses Google Gemini for notes, and the interview is on Google Meet. It was a 4-month co-op.

First, there was a screening round where they asked about my profile, skills, and why I wanted to work at Hootsuite. Then, I met with the Hiring Manager who tested my SQL skills and asked some behavioral questions about project handling and the tools I used. The final round was a presentation. I had a take-home assignment with 10 questions based on a dataset and business problems. I had to model the data, visualize KPIs, create charts and graphs, and then present my findings in 30 minutes. They also asked more behavioral questions at the end.
