First, I talked to a recruiter. Then, I had a call with the person who would be my supervisor. After that, there was a 2-hour interview with three people. Finally, I had another round of interviews with other team members. They asked about culture fit, my career goals, and my overall marketing approach. They also tested my skills. I got to ask the team a lot of detailed questions, which was good. Overall, it was a great experience.

Behavioral Technical

Hootsuite's hiring journey is a casual three-part process. You'll need to know their product. First, a brief 15-minute HR chat to see if you fit the company culture. Second, a 30+ minute interview with the department manager to test your product knowledge and problem-solving skills, especially your idea generation speed. They seem to favor entrepreneurial spirits, fitting for a startup. Third, an online or in-person interview with the director at HQ in Canada. If you don't mess up here, the job is pretty much yours, as the manager likely already decided. This final stage is just for the director to get a sense of your potential contributions, though you won't interact with them much later. The interview style felt like it was for a marketing agency, which was odd given Hootsuite isn't one, highlighting a potential company direction issue.

Case Behavioral

I feel like if a company invites you for three interviews, and you spend time and money on travel, only to be told they don't have the budget for the role, it's not a good look. The people I met were nice and the interviews went smoothly, but going there three times, paying for transport, and then getting to the point where they said they'd offer me a job but couldn't afford it really soured my view of the company.
