First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Hootsuite.
Sales
So the interview process was a bit weird. First, I talked to a recruiter, then to some managers, and then I had to give a presentation to more managers. They gave me some tasks in between interviews that took a lot of time and effort, but they never even brought them up. The management team wasn't very engaging; the director had trouble with video conferencing, which was strange for a tech company that's been remote for over a year. None of them seemed to know the scenario for my roleplay/presentation, which was off-putting. They stayed muted and looked bored the whole time, making me want to get it over with. Afterward, they gave me very little feedback, making it the most unengaged interview I've ever had. After spending so much time preparing and researching, I was really disappointed and frustrated that I wasted so much time. I had to chase them for a rejection, and they gave me the same minor feedback from my presentation. I wouldn't recommend wasting your time with this company.

I applied online and they reached out the next day to schedule an interview, it was super quick. The first step was a phone interview to get to know me, and then they set up an in-person interview right after. I didn't get hired, but I thought the process and the interviewer were great. They seem like really nice people and it's a company that's growing fast.
- How would you introduce Hootsuite to a company that has no prior knowledge of it and pique their interest in the product?
Sales
This was hands down the worst hiring/recruitment process etiquette I've ever seen. Expect rescheduling at least 3-4 times. Also, expect the hiring manager to not call you at the scheduled time, requiring you to contact HR before they even notify you. The hiring manager might not even acknowledge or apologize for missing a scheduled phone interview. You might also get video conference info with instructions to dress appropriately and find a suitable background, only for the hiring manager to not show up and just call your cell phone instead. Be prepared for a 45-minute notice to reschedule an IN-PERSON interview that was supposed to be at their office. They also don't ask any personal questions about your goals, interests, or accomplishments outside of work. There's ambiguity at every turn, and they show no respect for candidates' time or effort. Candidates invest time, effort, and money in this process. If this is how they treat potential talent, imagine how current employees are treated. Check the employee and interview reviews – avoid this place.
