The recruiter I spoke with seemed unprofessional, as she was texting on her phone during the video call and smiling at the screen. She couldn't answer basic questions about the role, like what AI tools were being used (which is relevant since the job requires using them), and had to read from the job description. She did ask a couple of behavioral questions from a script. She mentioned there might be a few more rounds, but they hadn't finalized the interview process yet. The questions themselves were okay, but the texting was a major turn-off.

It was a pretty standard interview process. Started with a phone call with HR, and by the end of it, she told me the Managing Associate General Counsel wanted to interview me. That interview was on video, and the questions were pretty straightforward about my experience. Then, I was told I'd have a group interview with lawyers who would be my peers if I got the job. The group didn't seem to have a plan or much energy for the interview. I ended up leading the conversation and asking them questions. Maybe there was someone else they were leaning towards.

Behavioral Presentation

The interview process, from the initial screenings all the way through the video calls with the decision-makers, was very professional, organized, and the interviewers were knowledgeable. I liked everyone I met and had a good feeling about the company. The main problem was the overall timing of everything. I'm used to too many interviews, but here there were often 3-4 week waits for an update, even though I was highly qualified with a specific skillset they wanted. I applied back in October, and I ended up having to take a job in bank lending before I even finished the last interview, which was in May.

Behavioral Technical

I applied online and got an automated rejection about a month later. Then, the Talent Advisor emailed asking to schedule a Teams interview ASAP, which was weird after the rejection. I replied about the conflicting emails but got no response. I followed up a few days later and set up the Teams interview. I felt it went okay, though I was asked stuff already on my resume and in the ATS. We talked about the hiring steps, and I was supposed to have more Teams interviews with a team member and the hiring manager over the next few weeks. Those interviews seemed fine, but the hiring manager said things about the rest of the process that didn't match what the Talent Advisor and Freddie's website said. About three to four weeks after that, the Talent Advisor emailed saying they chose a more qualified candidate, which I doubted. They offered to help with other job searches, so I reached out twice about another role I liked, but never heard back. Later, I saw on LinkedIn who got the job – someone internal. The profile made their 'more qualified' claim questionable, and even worse, it showed they started the job a month before my interview! I suspect I was just interviewed to tick a box for external candidates when they had no intention of hiring one. The early rejection email, the lack of replies, and the drawn-out interview process started to make sense then. The generic rejection email and fake offer to help just confirmed it. Really dishonest process.
