Corning Interview Questions
& Process

A recruiter from Corning (Location: Corning, NY) reached out about my application for an engineering role. They asked for my availability for a phone screen, and I gave them four options over several days that week. More than a week later, I got an invite for a time I hadn't suggested. It was a 30-minute meeting, which didn't work for me. I replied with more availability to try and make it work. Sadly, no response came back, and my application was closed without any further word. It felt unprofessional and like they didn't care. Good communication and respect are key in hiring, and I expected better from a Corning recruiter. I won't name the recruiter, but I'm happy to share details with Corning HR if they want to understand and fix the candidate experience.

The application was submitted online, and then I had an initial phone screen where we discussed the role and my experience. The next stage involved a trip to the site, but the logistics were a mess. I was flown to a rural town with no transport or contacts arranged, and no local taxis or rental cars available. This left me stranded at the airport late on a Sunday night. It took hours to get to the hotel, after a long journey with multiple layovers. The hotel was also far from the interview location, making it hard to get there without a car and with difficult transport options. Despite the disorganization and travel nightmare, the interviewers were nice and knew their stuff. I gave a research talk and had about 8 hours of discussions. A month after this frustrating experience, I got an automated rejection, even though the campus was pleasant.

I started with a phone screening where they asked me about basic company info and my suitability for the role. Then, I had a video interview with four people: two from the team I applied to and two from HR. This interview was mostly behavioral and situational questions. The whole thing was pretty fast, and I got the decision pretty quickly. Note that other internships might have different interview styles or questions.

It was a 3 Stage interview. First was with a 3rd Party HR, just a normal self-introduction, and based on your confidence and BG, she will filter you to the second round. Second was with HR from Corning, Account Manager & Director of Sales. Since the Director was busy, I had my third round with the Director. HR and AM will ask questions based on your resume. They will dig deep, so know your resume well. They will throw a situation or two to see how you'll handle it. Third round with the Director was a complete delight. I loved talking with him. The Interview followed the same process. I self-introduced myself, and he went on to ask Q based on emotional intelligence.
