First, a recruiter called me for a screen. Then I took a skills test. After that, the hiring manager did a phone screen. Finally, I had an in-person interview with two people from the company. What I learned during the interviews was pretty eye-opening. Apparently, most of the people in the enterprise PMO are contractors, like 40 out of 51. Also, they have a huge backlog of projects, but they're always behind schedule and nobody really knows why, they're just lost. Management is hesitant to hire more people because of the constant delays, even though there are tons of projects. And the interviewers, despite being older, weren't very good at interviewing. They talked more than they asked questions and didn't really get much out of me.

I applied in early December 2011 and sent my resume. I was first asked to answer some questions from the company, which I did. About a month later, I was contacted to see if I was still available and to schedule a phone interview. The recruiting company then gave me the chance to talk with someone who used to have the same job, which I did. The phone interview didn't go well from the start. The corporate recruiter seemed to have a negative view of me from the beginning, and I couldn't change their mind, even though I tried. They said they saw me more as a Business Analyst than a Project Manager, and that my experience was only theoretical, despite my 14 years of professional work (during which I was a BA for just one year). Overall, the recruiting company was very positive, but the corporate side was very negative.

I was contacted by Corning Talent Lead on LinkedIn and sent my resume. Within about a week, I had an interview with the Hiring Manager. The following week, I had a Panel Interview via Skype, after which I received an offer and we negotiated. The whole experience was great and I was impressed by the speed of the process. Negotiation was the best I've experienced. The entire process from start to finish was completed in under 3 weeks.
