Technical Coding Behavioral Case Presentation

The interview process started with an online assessment, which was a timed test with no going back. It had three parts: Aptitude (18 questions), Data Interpretation (a bit tough, so don't get stuck on one question), and SQL (database queries and concepts). 20 students made it to the next round. Round 2 was HR/Behavioral mixed with Technical. It began with introductions and some interaction questions to see how you think. They asked about preferring to stay on or off campus and why. They also asked about NMICET and why you chose an MCA. Then came Aptitude questions like a clock problem (angle at 3:15) and swapping two numbers without a third variable (explained bit manipulation first, then the addition method). SQL skills were tested with a question on optimizing subqueries. Round 3 was purely Technical, starting with an intro and then focusing on technical thinking. They asked about Decision Trees and presented a scenario: as a sports store sales manager in Chennai, you need to increase sales by either offering a membership card or reducing prices. You had to draw a Decision Tree with chosen attributes and explain your approach, which seemed to impress the interviewer. Another problem involved a canteen manager wanting to understand and fix decreased sales. A follow-up asked how you'd collect data and what data you'd need for analysis. You answered both scenarios well, impressing the interviewer with your approach. This round focused on problem-solving, decision-making, and data analysis. The round ended with you asking questions. Round 4 was an HR round. The interviewer introduced herself and asked about academic and career transitions. Other questions included preferred work location and if family works at Citi. This round was short (5-10 mins). Out of 7 shortlisted for this round, 5 were selected.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Tell me about your preferred work location.
  • Are any of your family members currently employed at Citi?

Technical Coding Behavioral

The interview process was based solely on my resume. They asked about every part of my resume. In the technical interview, I was asked to write a sorting algorithm. I wrote merge sort on paper and explained its workings with an example. They inquired about my projects and the tech stacks I utilized. My communication was noted positively as I was well-prepared. The technical round took 25 minutes for me, longer than the typical 15 minutes for others. The HR interview consisted of general conversation about my school studies and similar topics. Unfortunately, I didn't succeed in the HR interview.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Could you explain a sorting algorithm?
  • Tell me about your projects and the technologies you used.
  • What can you tell me about your school studies?

Applied through Naukri and got a call from HR. They asked me to take a test with aptitude, math, DSA problem solving, and logic questions. I scored 81/100, but I've seen people get shortlisted with lower scores too. After that, there were 3 F2F interviews at their Chennai Office. I met the team and they asked DSA questions. My SQL was a bit rusty, so they only asked me one question on it, which I answered. The technical and managerial rounds were easy-medium difficulty, especially if you're used to Leetcoding. The last round was with the HR manager where we discussed salary and I was told I'd get an offer soon (still waiting though).

Confirmed questions7 questions

  • How to reverse a string while keeping special characters in their original positions?
  • Identify the element that appears most consecutively in an array.

I applied for a python role, and I made it clear to HR that I was seeking Python opportunities. However, the interviewer had a Java background and asked me Java-related questions because Java was mentioned in my previous projects on my resume. Since I was applying for a Python role, I hadn't thoroughly reviewed Java. Despite this, I felt my first round went better than average. I haven't heard back from Citi after a week, and my attempts to contact HR have gone unanswered. This lack of communication is unprofessional, and I wouldn't recommend wasting your time with Citi.

Confirmed questions4 questions
  • Can you discuss your knowledge of Java?
  • Tell me about your understanding of Object-Oriented Programming concepts.
  • How do you approach problem-solving?
