First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Chevron Phillips Chemical.
Intern
This interview is a simple process consisting of several behavioral questions. Expect about 3-5 questions and you will have a chance to ask your own questions at the end. Have some questions ready that show your interest and eagerness to work for the company.
- Describe a situation where you demonstrated leadership effectively.
Administrative Assistant
The whole process was really good, from start to finish. They communicated clearly, coordinated things smoothly, and gave feedback on time at every step, from the first contact right through the interviews and after.
- Tell me about your experience as an administrative assistant.
- What administrative tasks are you proficient in?
- Can you share an example of a challenging situation you faced in an administrative role and how you handled it?
OCM Consultant
The interview was virtual and team/Zoom style. During the first interview, only 2 out of 5 people were on camera, which felt awkward. For the second interview, none of the 4 interviewers were on camera, making it uncomfortable. I was speaking without any feedback, which felt very discourteous. I asked them to turn on their cameras, but they refused. I then suggested ending the interview. The interview was over, and there was no thanks. Given that kind of treatment during the interview, you can imagine how you'd be treated as a contractor coming on board. Employers, please note that we interview you too. You are lucky to have us bring our experience, time, and talent to your organization. Your superiority might work during a recession when we are desperate for work. But I am not desperate for work. Dodged a bullet with this company!
- They assumed a common language, which was frustrating.
Process Operator
I sent in my application online and then got invited to take an aptitude test. After passing that, I was asked to take a cobra test. I passed that too and then had an interview, and about a week later, I received an offer. Following that, I had to complete a fit for duty exam, a physical, drug and alcohol test, and a background check (which included criminal history, education history, and employment history). I also had a Respirator fit test. I started working about a month and a half after all those steps were completed.
- Can you tell me about your past experience and how it might benefit cpchem?
- Can you describe a simple distillation column?
- How would you explain a simple LOTO situation?
