Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Chevron Phillips Chemical.
Engineer
The first stage was a screening interview, and the second was an onsite panel interview that lasted about an hour. The process was very easy and expectations were clearly communicated. It was a very planned and formal interview with no trick questions.
- Tell me about a time when... (STAR method)
- Could you answer 3-5 technical questions?
Project Engineer
I got recruited through my college career fair. I liked the process and they treated us well, which is good because I've seen bad interviews before. I did an interview at school and then the next interview was on the job site. The on-site interview was half a day where I met several managers and supervisors from different groups. They included breakfast and lunch with the interview where I went with different groups of people. I had a guide who was with me through all the meetings for the day.
- Can you provide an example of a situation where you worked within a group, encountered a conflict, and describe how you resolved it?
Project Engineer
Applied online and after that they contacted me for a face to face interview, but it was to be at a restaurant in the evening. This was due to the busy schedules of the interviewers. I was interviewed by the Plant Manager, the Project Dept. Manager, and HR Manager. Due to the abnormal interview location, the Plant Manager dispensed with regular Q&A process and asked me to tell about myself, my background, and my qualifications for the position. They did followup with some questions based on my narrative about me. The process took 2 hours.
- Can you tell us about yourself, your background, and your qualifications for this position?
- Could you elaborate on your narrative with some follow-up questions based on what you've told us?
