Behavioral Technical

The hiring journey typically kicks off with a preliminary chat, either over the phone or online, to make sure you tick the basic boxes for qualifications and experience. After that, you'll usually go through one or more interviews with folks like HR and the hiring managers, where they'll dig into your skills, past work, and how well you'd fit the job. For some roles, you might have to do some assessments or tests. If you make it through the final review, you'll get an offer.

Technical Behavioral Case

If you're applying for this global payments role, brace yourself for a long interview process with 5 rounds plus a case study. The interviewers seem a bit uninterested in what you say. The tech and behavioral questions are manageable, but the hiring manager will likely be in China. Your English skills might not be enough, as they might not understand you about 70% of the time. You'll definitely need to be fluent in Mandarin for this job.

Behavioral

My experience with TikTok’s recruiting process has been consistently disappointing. The recruiters seem to be in a very competitive internal environment which leads to disorganized behavior, like claiming candidates without fully understanding the role fit or alignment. After scheduling interviews, the interviewer I was assigned failed to show up twice. When she finally joined on the third attempt, there was no acknowledgment or apology for the prior no-shows, and it was clear she was unprepared. She was visibly distracted throughout the conversation, her attention shifting across the screen rather than engaging with the discussion. Following the interview, I received no feedback or follow-up regarding next steps or a decision. Overall, it was an unprofessional and frustrating candidate experience.

Behavioral Technical Coding

HR contacted me and set up an interview for the following week. The first part was a 60-minute tech interview. We spent the first 40 minutes on resume questions and behavioral questions, mostly about my past research. Then, for the last 20 minutes, I had to solve a LeetCode medium problem.

Confirmed questions4 questions
  • Could you explain what GRPO is and what PPO is?
  • How did you go about designing the reward in your project?
  • Can you tell me more about your past research experiences?
