Human Resources
I was found on LinkedIn, wasn't really looking. The first call was an hour long. The recruiter spent about 40 minutes talking about the company and teams before asking me anything about myself or my experience. I think I only answered about 3 questions by the end. They said I'd hear back the next week. I didn't get an update for a whole month, and then they told me they picked someone else, but they did encourage me to apply for other jobs later. While I wasn't super excited about the role, the whole process wasn't a great look for the company.
- Tell me about your background.
Software Development Engineer
First, I had a chat with HR where we talked about my background, my studies, what I'm interested in, and if I'd be a good fit for the company. They also went over what the job involves, what it's like to work here, and what I expect to get paid. Then, I had a technical interview. They wanted to see how much I know technically and if I can solve problems related to the job. They asked stuff about [mention relevant topics or tools, e.g., programming languages, system design, subject knowledge, etc.] to check if I understand the concepts and can actually use my technical skills.
- Can you write a Java program to find the maximum profit from buying and selling a stock, with at most one transaction allowed?
Field CTO
Started with a recruiter screen, then a hiring manager screen. The hiring manager spent most of the 30 minutes talking about his vision for the company. After that, there were two panel interviews, each with two people. These got rescheduled four times because the interviewers weren't available. One of the interviewers had only been at the company for three weeks and didn't know what questions to ask. There was no follow-up after the panels, and the recruiter went silent and unresponsive. The whole thing took almost three months and didn't end with a decision.
- What value would you bring to this position?
Data Scientist
The interview process started off pretty well and I was feeling good about it, but the recruiter's communication after the technical rounds was a bit disappointing. Even though I got positive feedback from all the technical interviewers, when it came to compensation talks with HR, things got strange. After just one meeting, the HR went completely silent. Despite my follow-ups, they eventually rejected me, saying my salary expectations were too high, which was odd because we'd already touched on that in the first call. I was really keen on this role because it involved deep learning, but after reading other reviews and my own experience, I'm having second thoughts. I'd suggest the HR team improve their process for a better candidate experience and be upfront about budget constraints earlier, rather than wasting everyone's time on interviews if the core requirements don't align. All the best!
