Solutions Architect
The process was pretty standard. It began with a chat with HR/Recruiter, and then I spoke with the hiring manager. They were nice and professional. Asked me about my background. It was a pretty typical interview, nothing out of the ordinary.
- Can you describe your responsibilities in your previous position?
- What were the main difficulties you encountered in your last role?
- What aspects of your previous job did you find most enjoyable?
Solutions Architect
I was contacted by a staffing agency for the position. I mentioned my current salary and was told that we can go ahead with the application. After a couple of interviews, I even sent the recruiter an email mentioning that salary expectation was not being discussed. Received the following reply verbatim - "Typically they will call you to discuss the parameters and get your buy in with the numbers so everything flows right through." After 3 months and multiple interviews, imagine my surprise when HR makes a offer that is below what I was making in my current job. There was no point in going ahead with the offer. The HR Rep advised that in future I should ask for the salary parameters in my future searches in the beginning itself! Really!!! The team that I was interviewing for seemed to be nice and professional but the HR and their hiring process left a bad taste.

HR does an initial screening based on your profile and the Job Description. Then, there's a second round with a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to check your knowledge and experience. If you pass that, the third round is with the Practice Director. The fourth round is with your reporting manager. The final round is with HR to discuss the offer, and it's based on your fitment. Sometimes, management might add more rounds based on reviews.
