First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Big Lots.
District Manager
It was an easy process. There were four interviews in total. I spoke with the Region Market Manager, the Region Vice President, the Region Human Resources, and the president of stores. The whole thing took about two months from beginning to end. I was offered the job.
- Can you describe your previous work history?
Operations Associate
It was a quick and easy 20 minute interview. The store manager called me to set up a date. Once I got there, they asked me some customer service questions and about my previous jobs.
- Can you share an instance when you delivered outstanding customer service?
- What about your previous work experience can you tell me?
Store Associate
It was a pretty easy interview, just one round that lasted about 20 minutes. We mostly talked about the job responsibilities and what a typical day looks like. They were mainly trying to figure out what my schedule is like.
- Tell me about your past experience and how it relates to this job.
- How does your availability align with what we need?
- What do you anticipate doing on a daily basis in this role?
Furniture Manager
I found the job on Indeed and was emailed by Talent Acquisition. I said I was interested and they said they'd send my resume to the Manager. The District Manager contacted me and I had an in-store interview that same day with the General and Assistant Managers. We talked about the company, the job, and expectations, plus my experience and job history. The General Manager and I toured the store, and we discussed the work environment. At the end, they said I could apply on their website. Two days later, the District Manager asked me to complete the background check form. Two days after that, I was cleared and ready to be scheduled. It was a great, fast process with polite and professional communication from everyone.
- This job requires being outgoing and friendly to every customer, and we need someone who can go the extra mile. Can you show us that you can do this?
