Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Big Lots.
Sales Associate
The process was quick, finishing in less than a week. The next week involved orientation. It was straightforward, asking about your willingness to perform tasks. The actual work was easy, but the company was very disorganized. Training was nonexistent; they assumed you knew everything. Managers expected tasks to be completed in under twenty minutes. Asking management questions resulted in negative reactions. Coworkers were generally fine.
- Are you able to process 45 boxes per hour?
- Can you handle 25 stickers per hour?
Sales Associate
I dropped off my application on a Friday and met the manager. I got a call for an interview the following Monday. The interview itself was good; two managers were present and asked typical questions that anyone could answer. I received a job offer on Friday and am currently considering it, though the hours (4 am to 9 am) are a bit early. I'm thinking about discussing alternative hours with the manager if other positions are available.
- What are some common interview questions?
- How do you handle challenging situations?
Sales Associate
It was a really simple and easy interview. They asked some basic questions about why I wanted to work there and my availability. I got offered the job right after the interview, which was about 15-20 minutes long.
- When can you start?
- Why are you interested in this position?
- What's your availability like?
