First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Big Lots.
Intern
I met with HR at CareerFest back in February. After that, I sent in my application via email and online. About two weeks later, they got in touch to set up a phone interview. The phone interview seemed to go super well, and they said I'd hear back within the week. But then, crickets... until three weeks later when I followed up. They told me they'd already filled the position.
- What makes you stand out from the many other applicants?
- Why should I remember YOU?
Intern
They asked me a bunch of questions, and I also had to read a prompt about how to get customers to sign up. I was asked about the classes I took and if I had customer service experience. I told them I did, and that seemed to help. I also read the pamphlet they gave me to learn more about the company.
- What is your motivation for seeking this internship, and what is your understanding of Big Lots?
- Why do you want to intern with us and what do you know about Big Lots?
Intern
First, the campus recruiter spoke with me about the role, and then I submitted my application online. After that, I completed a 15-minute phone interview. I then had another interview at the company's headquarters, which was located near W Broad Street at the time. Honestly, the office itself was quite gloomy.
- Can you share an instance where you had to accomplish a task under a tight deadline?
