Corporate Functions
The interview process was pretty standard, with questions about the industry. The interviewers were pleasant and friendly. My main issue was the timeline, which dragged on for over two months, and the recruiter's communication was inconsistent. I'd often wait over a week for an update before learning if I was advancing. I was in the midst of interview round 6 out of 7 when the recruiter became unresponsive. I tried to get in touch, but received no reply. I only found out I didn't get the job when I saw the position readvertised on LinkedIn. It was quite disappointing to discover my rejection this way, especially since I was nearing the final stages. I could understand this kind of 'ghosting' happening earlier in the process, but not after investing so much time.
- Can you share an instance where you significantly improved a process within your area of expertise?
Data Scientist and Machine Learning Engineer
The recruiters were helpful, warm, and responsive. They assisted me with prep after I inquired about what to focus on. The interview process included coding questions that addressed specific components of the ML workflow, like data preparation and ML problem formulation. It also featured an ML system design challenge.
- Could you discuss ML system design questions?
- Were there coding problems that solve small parts of the ML workflow?
Software Engineer
It's a pretty standard interview process, similar to what most companies do. First, you chat with a recruiter about the company and the job. Then there's a technical assessment. After that, there are several hours of technical interviews that make up the final stage. Nothing too unusual. My experience with the interviewers themselves was a mixed bag. Some were really welcoming and seemed genuinely interested in the interview, while others were clearly not engaged, hardly spoke to me, and came across as quite rude.
- You were given some code and asked to debug it.
Product Designer
The interview started with a screening call, then a chat with the hiring manager. After that, I did a portfolio case study presentation that lasted about an hour. Then came a whiteboard exercise, and finally, some interviews with people from Product and Engineering. The whole thing moved pretty quickly. But honestly, for a company called ZipRecruiter, I expected better communication from the recruiter – they were really unresponsive. The whiteboard exercise also felt a bit disorganized, like the people running it weren't really prepped for it. In the end, I never heard back after the last interview, not even a generic email. It was a really bad experience.
