First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at White & Case.
Associate
It was a long interview with native speakers and partners. They asked some interesting questions that were more about specific projects than general legal knowledge. I felt like they were really checking my weekend availability, and that ended up being the deciding factor, even though the projects sounded cool, the salary was good, and the team seemed nice.
- Tell me about the legal and technological aspects of your past projects.
- What is your availability like on weekends?
Project Manager
So the interview kicked off with a chat with HR. Then came the first round with a junior staff member, which was mostly behavioral questions digging into my background, interests, and experience. After that, I had to tackle a case study involving a massive amount of data in Excel. The task was to prep a PowerPoint with some recommendations based on the data. The second round involved presenting my analysis to two managers who then grilled me with questions. The plan was to have a third round with the director of the team, but the HR person scheduled it and then totally ghosted. Soooo, a few weeks passed, and I got an email saying the role was on hold. Fast forward six months, they posted the job again. I applied, but got an auto-rejection. And that’s how that interview process went down.
- Tell us why you're looking to move
- How would you best approach summarizing a large amount of data?
- What are your interests?
Business Analyst
Applied and got contacted by HR via email to set up an interview. Had a chat with the hiring manager and also with HR to go over benefits and the 3-stage interview process. Everything felt good. The first interview was supposed to be 30 mins but went for an hour. I followed up with HR a bunch of times and they kept saying they were checking with the hiring manager. In the end, I never heard back from my HR contact. Later I saw the role was changed to a regular Business Analyst position and then completely removed. It felt like a waste of my time because no one even got back to me with the results of the first interview. Even a quick email saying they were moving on would have been nice. Really unprofessional.
- Have you worked on improving processes before?
Executive Assistant
The welcome was awkward and they were late, with insincere apologies. The interview itself was extremely long but superficial. The questions didn't focus on my skills but rather on my perceptions, which was very strange. It was the worst feedback I've ever received in thirty years of my career; it was sharp and not at all constructive. The comments weren't really about the firm but more about the individuals who interviewed me.
- If you could change aspects of your current role that you're unhappy with, would you still stay with your current employer?
