First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at White & Case.
Intern
It was a recorded video interview with about 4-5 questions, followed by a translation test (Chinese to English and English to Chinese) with very limited time. Finally, there was a 45-minute interview with two partners.
- Could you share some recent commercial news?
- Could you tell me about your experience as listed on your CV?
- What were your key takeaways from previous internships?
Intern
Started with an aptitude test, then a video interview. The aptitude test was quite difficult, and the video interview had 3 questions, including common video interview questions. They asked about the company and why I chose W&C. There were also behavioral, commercial, and legal questions. Later stages included assessments and face-to-face interviews.
- Why did you choose White and Case?
Intern
They first asked for my availability, and I picked Mon to Thurs. They then scheduled me for a Friday at 5 pm with two associates. I took the day off work for it. Just 30 mins before, HR emailed saying it had to be postponed because the associates weren't available. When the new date came, they were 10 mins late. They logged in without saying anything about my wait. The interview was quick and simple. I had to talk about my past experiences and a legal concept. One interviewer was silent the whole time. The other asked me why I'd been an intern for so long in a tone that felt mocking. When I discussed the legal concept, I used a case I worked on but had to omit the client's name due to confidentiality. They seemed skeptical I'd drafted sections of a brief, but I answered all questions. A month later, I got a generic rejection letter addressed to 'Monsieur' (I'm a woman). They refused to give feedback, citing too many candidates. While nothing was terrible, some things felt impolite, possibly due to cultural differences. I get that the team is busy, but respecting applicants' time is important. The process felt disrespectful and left me with a bad feeling.

- Can you explain a legal concept associated with arbitration?
