I had a good call with the recruiter, and even though I was looking to switch industries, my resume and experience are very accomplished. She mentioned they were looking to grow the team by 5-7 people, and everything seemed to align. However, two days later, I received an email stating they had found other candidates with better and more experience that aligned with the role. This is an entry-level position, and frankly, it felt like a stockbroker being denied a shift lead position at McDonald's. So, those other candidates must have been C-suite level caliber.

It started with an initial phone meeting with a recruiter, but the recruiter was over an hour late, so it didn't start well. Then there were some typical pre-screening questions, followed by a meeting with a hiring manager. The hiring manager read questions from a script and didn't make eye contact. Both parts seemed disorganized. The hiring manager said the recruiter would let me know about next steps. I guess I haven't been officially rejected, but it's been 7 weeks with no reply to my emails to the recruiter, so I'm assuming someone else got the job.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

The whole interview process was lengthy and took a lot of time. The recruiter was great and gave lots of info, very encouraging. But the manager and team members who interviewed me gave mixed feedback. In the third interview, one interviewer was 10 minutes late, asked questions really fast, then left, so the other person had to finish the interview alone. The interviewer who was late gave bad feedback, but the ones who actually talked to me gave good feedback. After that, I had one or two more interviews, so maybe 4 or 5 total. They make the process long to see if you can handle the job.

Behavioral

The recruiter for this interview was very condescending. I was excited for the role and the interview because I have relevant experience, but I ended up in tears after our conversation because of how she made me feel. As soon as the call started, she immediately asked, 'so you're not working right now.' I replied, 'no, unfortunately I was laid off last year and have been applying to jobs since.' She then commented, 'that is a long time to be laid-off.' Taken aback, I told her, 'as you know the job market is tough but I have been actively applying to open roles and in the meantime volunteering and working on new skills.' She responded, 'I don't see the volunteer work on your resume.' I explained, 'I tailored this resume for the campus recruiting role advertised.' Overall, it was a very condescending and rude experience. It felt like she hadn't even reviewed my resume because as I was discussing my campus recruitment experience, she acted surprised, as if she hadn't read it. I've never had an experience like this with a recruiter.
