First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Tractor Supply.
Sales Associate
I had a really good interview with Tractor Supply Company. The conversation was detailed but still felt nice and comfortable. The interviewer was upfront and honest about the job, what's expected, and the work atmosphere, which I appreciated. Overall, it was a very good and professional chat.
- Can you tell me about how you manage when you have several tasks to do at once and how you decide what to do first to keep everything on track?
Talent and Leadership Development Manager
The hiring process here is lengthy, as I've heard from contacts that they can take a while to fill positions to make sure they hire the right person. My interview took months. Each stage took about two weeks to get updates on the next step and then another week or more to schedule. Recruiter communication was not great. I had to follow up multiple times to get a response. They basically only reply when they have news. One interviewer even missed our meeting because they were scheduled on their day off. When I told the recruiter, I got no response that day, only days later to reschedule. I invested months of effort, even presenting a project in the final round. Ultimately, I was told they decided to go in a different direction, which again took weeks and many follow-ups to hear. No feedback or acknowledgement of my time and effort was given. The recruiter asked me to connect on LinkedIn, but never accepted, so I'm not sure if that was sincere.
- What are your expected accomplishments in the initial 30 days?
Safety, LP and Quality Manager
So I talked to the recruiter first over the phone, that was pretty standard. Then I had a Teams interview with some of the hiring folks. The last part was an onsite at the distribution center, which went for like 5-6 hours. I met a bunch of people, but honestly, it got pretty repetitive and felt a bit disorganized. It seemed like several people asked the exact same questions during the day.
- What makes you want to join Tractor Supply?
- What would be your plan for the first 30, 60, and 90 days on the job?
Program Manager
I was ghosted after 4 months and 11 interviews, including 3 on-site trips for a mid-level PM role. Then there was another 2 months of silence. I can't get the recruiter to reply to an email, and there's no phone number. It's shockingly disrespectful and unprofessional. I'd expect this from a startup, not a $30B company, especially one that claims 'people first' and customer service. How a company treats candidates shows its culture!
- The 11th interview was with the C-suite (my second time speaking with that individual), and we had an open discussion involving a case study on how to address the team's specific challenges.
