First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Tractor Supply.
Team Leader
I had a quick 10-minute phone interview first. Then, I had a really good 45-minute interview with the store manager. After that, I interviewed with the store manager's manager. He seemed unprepared and didn't have my resume, so I gave it to him. His boss was also on the phone listening in during the interview. I felt like it went well. The next day, they called to say I didn't get the job because they felt I lacked retail experience. Given how much they stressed team building and customer service, I thought it was a bit short-sighted to reject me solely on that.
- What's your approach to dealing with an unhappy customer?
Team Leader
It's basically a one-on-one with the district manager. You'll have a chance to ask them questions, and they'll ask you some too. They really emphasize that it's a super fast-paced environment, and you'll be running on a really, really skeleton crew schedule. Like, they want to know if you can stock a pallet in 30 minutes. They'll tell you how much work is involved, but the pay and benefits are really good. They also mentioned that there's a 2 to 3 interview process before they make a hiring decision.
- Can you tell me about your attendance record at your past positions?
- Could you describe your responsibilities and duties in previous roles?
- Can you handle working autonomously and responsibly without constant supervision?
Team Leader
The interview process was pretty straightforward with general questions. The manager wasn't super clear about the exact duties. There was a delay in hearing back because they were waiting for other applicants, specifically wanting a male candidate, and had to settle due to a lack of other options. It took two weeks to get a final decision on the position.
- Would you be able to discipline colleagues if necessary?
