First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The NPD Group.
Account Executive
I had four different interviews for different positions because I kept “getting close” but it felt more like I was just being shuffled around. I did a case study and never got feedback which was frustrating. I followed up several times but was told the team was still making decisions. Was never updated or given feedback from interviews. Please try to keep candidates more informed/ updated in the future. I’d have interviews scheduled by HR and not know what the position I was interviewing for. I also asked about salary several times and never got an answer.

Data Scientist
It was a disorganized caricature of a real DS interview. Started with a fairly normal phone screen with HR. I was contacted the next day and asked to do a fairly normal take-home DS test which took about 4 hours. About a week later, I was contacted and told that I'd done well on the test. We scheduled an interview with the hiring manager. It was mostly behavioral, although he did ask me about how I would think through a particular problem. The first red flag was the description of the problem. It was clearly an ongoing issue with a client. He tried to sanitize it on the fly and ended up giving almost no detail. Under questioning, he also changed details on the fly. Disorganized but we got through it. I also strongly got the impression that they want a data analyst not a scientist. I was contacted about a week later and asked to interview with management at the next level up. I showed up on Zoom in a button-down and tie. My interviewer appeared in a dirty hoodie in a dark room. Quickly got over THAT shock. Much more stringent behavioral questioning. Then - radio silence. Follow-ups with people who warmly gave me their info unprompted went unanswered. No courtesy at all to follow up with a candidate 3 interviews in. They don't know the difference between a data analyst and a data scientist. They're also absolutely willing to waste as much of your time as you'll give them.

Operations Analyst
After applying online, I heard back from a recruiter about 2.5 weeks later to set up a phone interview for the following week. This call involved standard screening questions and a discussion. The in-person interviews were scheduled for the week after that. Overall, the process was pretty standard. It was a definite plus to get to chat with an executive director; it was very laid-back and conversational. The office location in Port Washington is a bit of a hassle due to limited transportation options. Sadly, communication stopped once I was no longer being considered.

Summer Associate
I applied through my college admissions portal, submitting a resume with an optional cover letter. A couple of weeks later, I got a call saying I'd be interviewed. The process involved a single superday at the company's Port Washington, NY campus (they covered flights and hotels). It included a ~20-30 minute group interview with three higher-ups. The questions were standard behavioral ones. Everyone was really friendly, and we were encouraged to chat with other applicants between interviews. It was a nice experience overall.
