First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Hanover Insurance Group.
Claims Adjuster
I applied for the job and had a phone interview with HR. Then, I had a virtual interview with 4 managers for 30 minutes each. After passing those, I interviewed with the Director. All the interviews were thorough, friendly, and professional. They are looking for people with at least 3-5 years of adjuster experience so they can get started quickly. The company is distinguished and they really value professionalism.
- Can you tell me about your experience as an adjuster?
Intern
Interviewed for an intern position. You start with a phone screen. Then there are 4, 30-minute calls back-to-back, which is pretty intense, but the team is really nice. Be prepared to talk about yourself a lot. It felt like they were vibe-checking, you know? If you get to the second round, bring a positive attitude, express your interest, and share what you specifically want to do at the company. They don't expect you to know everything about insurance; they just want to see if you fit their culture!
- Can you tell me why you are interested in Hanover and what aspects appeal to you?
- What technical skills do you possess?
- How would you handle a market downturn?
Business Systems Analyst
I had an initial call with the recruiter where I could pick a time/date from Calendly. I let the recruiter know which weekdays worked for a potential interview. A couple of days later, I was scheduled for three interviews on one of the weekdays I suggested, each 45 minutes long, but not back-to-back. Fortunately, I got the invites a few days early, so I could take the day off work. The interviews themselves went really well, and I felt I'd move on to the next stage. Everyone was super friendly, and I felt a good connection with the panel. My 20+ years of experience in P&C Insurance, including specific legacy system knowledge, was highly relevant. To my surprise, I wasn't selected to move to a second round of interviews, which was quite shocking, honestly. I asked the recruiter/hiring manager for feedback, but none was provided. Overall, it was a good experience, but it struck me as very unusual that I wasn't chosen to advance, given my background and experience.
- In five years, what would you want a newspaper headline about you to say?
Data Engineer
Had an initial HR phone screen with basic questions about why I want to work there and what makes me a good candidate. Then, there was an hour-long Zoom call with the hiring manager, focusing on my past experience and technologies used, testing general knowledge of data wrangling abilities without deep technical dives. After this, a two-week wait ensued, with HR stating they were awaiting feedback from the hiring manager. On the third week, HR offered me the Associate Data Engineer position, as the Data Engineer role was offered to someone else. I asked to meet more team members, which I was told would happen in a third round. I also tried to negotiate the salary, which was lower than my previous role, but they were firm. They stated the third interview would only be scheduled if I accepted the offer. Ultimately, they rescinded the offer because I didn't sign it without meeting more people. This worked out as I likely would have rejected it anyway due to cultural fit concerns.
- Can you describe some past data processes you've been involved in?
