First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Software AG.
Consultant
They started with an online aptitude test that included coding, then a group discussion. After that, there were two technical rounds (TR1 and TR2). TR1 was about explaining resume topics in detail. TR2 involved writing code for a specific scenario. Finally, there was a managerial round focusing on use cases and analyzing performance in various situations.
- Can you answer different Java questions?
- When should we use OOPS and what are specific use cases?
- Can you explain in detail all the topics on your resume?
Software Developer
So I applied for a Senior Software Developer role, specifically for Natural Application Integration OS (Adabas & Natural). The hiring manager seemed a bit surprised I got an interview, asking about my C/C++ experience since it wasn't obvious on my CV. I explained that the job was more about middleware services for integration, not necessarily heavy C/C++ coding, which seemed to ease his mind. He then asked me some technical questions and said he'd set up a second technical interview with a senior dev. That dev was on vacation, so we rescheduled for the day after they got back. I actually had to push it back one more day, which they were cool with. But then, just two hours before our scheduled chat, I got an email saying they'd already picked someone else. Kinda felt like a waste of time since I didn't even get to finish the technical part.
- Can you explain the low-level workings of a message queue?
Technical Support Consultant
This whole thing took about 2-3 months. It started with recruiters reaching out. It was kinda weird at first cause like two different recruiters contacted me about the same job, and I wasn't sure if they worked together or for the same company. After that, I had interviews with: recruiters, the tech team for an initial chat, the tech team again for a deeper dive, another tech interview, an executive interview, and an HR interview. The two in-depth tech interviews and the executive interview were done back-to-back, taking about 2 hours total. I did get an offer, but I turned it down. They offered me way less than my expected salary, even though they knew what I was looking for from the start. Plus, the HR person didn't seem very trustworthy when I asked them questions.
- Can you tell me about the HTTP protocol?
- What do you know about security?
- Do you have experience with databases?
Technical Support Engineer
So, a recruiter from LinkedIn reached out about this Technical Support Engineer role. The interview process was like this: First, there was a 30-minute Phone Screening with the recruiter to see if I was a good fit. Then, a 45-minute Technical Round with an Engineer to check my tech skills. The final part was a 2.5-hour Final Round Loop, which was actually three 45-minute interviews back-to-back on the same day. The first interview in the loop was all about Java programming and DSA. The second was a Managerial interview, focusing on my past experience and resume projects, plus some situational stuff. The third interview was with two tech support engineers where they grilled me on networking stuff like TCP/IP, SMTP, SSL, and certificates. After all that, it's been over a month and they've totally ghosted me. I haven't heard anything back, and my Software AG workday portal just says 'In Progress'.
- Can you explain TCP/IP Protocols and SMTP?
- Can you explain SSL/TLS?
- Tell me some basic Java questions.
