First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Software AG.
Software Developer
I applied online and my resume got shortlisted. The first step was a coding test with 2 coding questions. After that, I had a technical interview where they asked programming questions. They also inquired about my projects, and asked questions about Java, OOPs, and SQL, along with some basic questions.
- Could you tell us about OOPs and Java?
Software Developer
So I applied for a Senior Software Developer role, specifically for Natural Application Integration OS (Adabas & Natural). The hiring manager seemed a bit surprised I got an interview, asking about my C/C++ experience since it wasn't obvious on my CV. I explained that the job was more about middleware services for integration, not necessarily heavy C/C++ coding, which seemed to ease his mind. He then asked me some technical questions and said he'd set up a second technical interview with a senior dev. That dev was on vacation, so we rescheduled for the day after they got back. I actually had to push it back one more day, which they were cool with. But then, just two hours before our scheduled chat, I got an email saying they'd already picked someone else. Kinda felt like a waste of time since I didn't even get to finish the technical part.
- Can you explain the low-level workings of a message queue?
Software Engineer
So, this company, it was founded way back in 1969 by six people from a consulting firm called AIV. One of the main guys was this mathematician, Peter Schnell, who later headed things up for a long time. They released ADABAS in 1971, which was a really fast database system for transactions. Then, in 1979, they came out with Natural, which is like a 4GL language that's pretty easy to use, and Peter Pagé did most of the work on that.
- Can you describe your past projects?
