Manager
Talked to recruiter, then passed to hiring manager. Interviewed with hiring manager, they said I aligned with what they are looking for. Then I was GHOSTED!!! Reason why? They are hiring people they know and have worked with before because the entire team area all from the same firm and worked with each other before. So, they hired each other and interviewing other is just for show. UPDATED: Found out who they hired and I was correct they hired someone they used to work with or know. Whats the point of posting the job then and making people go through interviews.
- What kind of work environment are you looking for?
Software Engineer
I had a short call with HR, then interviewed at the company's office, followed by a home assignment. The whole thing took about 2 weeks from the first conversation to the offer. The interviews were with really smart people, and they mostly asked practical stuff.
- Could you explain what a view protocol in SwiftUI is?
iOS Engineer
I went through the interview process at Shutterfly in March 2024. It had 3 main parts: a 2-hour on-site technical interview with whiteboard coding, a take-home assignment, and then a final HR chat to discuss the assignment implementation. The take-home was pretty involved – building a movie database app using the TMDB API and the TCA architecture. It was a big, complex task with lots of expected features and took me more than 60 hours to complete within the week deadline. After submitting it, I heard nothing. A week later, I followed up and found out they hadn't even had a chance to review my code yet and couldn't say when they would. I followed up a few more times, sometimes getting a 'not yet' and sometimes no reply at all. It took them about 2.5 months to finally let me know the position was filled, with no feedback on my project at all, which makes sense since it seems like no one ever looked at it. Honestly, it was a really bad experience: HR was unresponsive, the interview process was draining, and I got zero feedback.
- Could you implement a screen from your app using SwiftUI on the whiteboard?
- Can you implement the stack getMaxValue function with O(n) complexity?
- For the home assignment, please build a movie database using the TMDB API and the TCA architecture.
HR Compliance Manager
Applied to the role, recruiter called and mentioned my salary expectations might be higher than the hiring manager's budget. A week later, I got a rejection. Two weeks after that, the recruiter reached out again, stating the hiring manager had budget flexibility and wanted to schedule a video interview. I had the interview with the hiring manager, who didn't use my name and seemed quite negative. Two weeks later, the recruiter told me there was no update but they were still considering me. I then withdrew my application.
