First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Rue Gilt Groupe.
Data Scientist
The interview process involved three stages. First, there was a 30-minute chat with the recruiter where I had to give a summary of my background and experience, talk about my familiarity with the tools and languages from the job description, explain a project I was proud of, and discuss my willingness to relocate. Then, I had a 30-minute meeting with the VP of Machine Learning and Data Science. We introduced ourselves, and I had to explain a machine learning project I completed from start to finish. I also discussed my interest in the role, given it was a bit different from my previous experiences, and shared an example of how I communicate my work to non-domain experts. This part was a free-flowing conversation. Finally, there was an hour-long meeting with the Senior Manager of Data Science, which included a live coding session, questions about statistics and data analysis for starting an ML project, and some basic ML concepts like decision trees and exploding/vanishing gradients.

Senior Software Engineer
The interview process took place over about 10 days and included four stages. First was an HR screen, then a Hiring Manager tech interview, followed by two interviews with Senior Devs. The Senior Dev interviews covered tech questions and system design. Each interview lasted about 60-90 minutes. The interviewers were nice and seemed to enjoy their jobs. I didn't get an offer from RGG. I asked for feedback, but the recruiter never responded, which was a bad look after I invested time in interviewing and preparing. I wouldn't recommend them based on that.

Mid Level Role
The whole thing took about 2 months. HR/Hiring manager first asked for my availability and scheduled a phone screening, then completely ghosted me and didn't call. We tried rescheduling multiple times over weeks, but they seemed super unorganized. I did get to a second round video interview eventually, but the interviewer didn't even seem to know what job I was interviewing for. I asked about job description requirements, and they were clueless. The hiring manager said the job was in NY, but the interviewer seemed to want someone in Boston, which is likely why I was rejected. The whole experience was really unprofessional and a total waste of my time.
- Can you tell me about your work experience and skills?
Event Coordinator
The whole interview process was super long and hard to follow. I had about 8 interviews in total, and they were all pretty chill and conversational. I thought I did well in all of them, but I was always told I'd hear back in a few days, and then it would take way longer. Instead of getting a decision, I'd just be told to interview with someone else. After the last interview, I finally got rejected, and I had to ask to find out. A few days later, the recruiter contacted me about a different role. I said I was interested, but after a week of no reply, the recruiter told me the team didn't actually want to interview me. Everyone I met was really nice, but I felt the company didn't really respect my time.
- Can you tell me how you keep yourself organized?
- How do you handle situations where you have multiple competing priorities?
- What makes you interested in this role?
