First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Oura.
Senior Backend Engineer
The whole thing started with a recruiter chat about the job and my background. Then I had a system architecture chat with someone on the team. After that, I interviewed with the hiring manager. Next up was a live coding session with the hiring manager and another team member. I also had to do a programming exercise as a take-home task. Then I walked through the take-home assignment with the hiring manager and a teammate. Finally, I had to give them 2-3 references. It was all online, and they let me know the whole plan pretty much from the start, which was cool. They sent clear info before each step about what to expect and if I needed to prep anything, like getting a dev environment ready. They were good at keeping in touch, usually getting back to me within a few days after each stage, and scheduling was easy – I just gave them my availability and they set it up. The interviewers were nice and professional. I got a good feel for the job and what they’re looking for. It was also great to meet some of the team members during the interviews; it gave me a better sense of who I might be working with. It did take a good chunk of time, a couple of months overall, with about 1-2 weeks between each round, but it felt well-planned and was a good experience.
- Could you diagram and present your proposed architecture, data flows, APIs, and database schema for a service like this?
Account Lead
The whole process from applying to getting the offer took a while because of a system glitch, but after that was sorted, things moved fast and I was kept in the loop. Everyone I talked to was nice and worked around my schedule, and talking to them was interesting, so the number of interviews wasn't a problem. The case study needed some effort, but it was a cool question, so it wasn't too much of a pain. 1) Applied online. 2) Talked to talent acquisition. 3) Talked to the retail director. 4) Talked to the lead account manager. 5) Did a case study with 3 team members. 6) Final chat with the CMO.

Senior Android Engineer
The whole thing was pretty smooth and organized. First, I had an intro chat with HR. Then, there were two technical rounds: a 90-minute session focused on architecture and design, followed by a take-home project that we reviewed a few days later. After that, I talked with the hiring manager, and it wrapped up with another HR chat. Everyone I met was really nice and made me feel at ease right away, which definitely helped when we got into the technical details. The conversations were to the point, fair, and felt like genuine engineering discussions, not tricky traps. All in all, a good and respectful experience.
- Can you describe how you'd approach designing a feature from start to finish, covering everything from initial requirements through to testing and the final release?
Software Engineer
The recruiter was really enthusiastic about my 20 years of experience, but the hiring manager interview was a letdown. He was late and only gave me 4 minutes for my questions at the end. He didn't even know what job I was interviewing for until I asked him at the very end! Maybe it was the end of the day, but he seemed bored and lacked any personality, like talking to a wall. There was zero interaction or questions about my experience; he just asked basic 'check box' questions from a list. It was a disappointing experience.
- Can you share an instance where you had a disagreement with a manager?
