Overall it was a good/neutral experience. There were two tech screening rounds. The first round involved an ML coding question that was pretty easy but had a trick to it. The interviewer initially guided me down a less efficient path until I figured out a simpler solution, which wasn't the best part of the experience. The second round was solely a discussion about my PhD research experience. I didn't receive any follow-up or feedback.

Behavioral Technical Coding System Design
You'll start by applying on the Nuro careers site or through job boards, uploading your resume and maybe a cover letter. Referrals help too. If they like your resume, a recruiter will call you for about 30-45 minutes to chat about your background, skills, and interest in Nuro. They might ask some behavioral questions to see if you fit. Then, there's usually a technical phone screen with an engineering manager or senior engineer. This involves coding problems (like arrays, strings, graphs, trees, DP) and maybe system design for more senior roles. You'll code on a platform like CoderPad and need to talk through your thinking. If that goes well, you'll get invited for an on-site or virtual on-site, which has 3-5 rounds. These include technical rounds with more coding or system design, behavioral interviews about teamwork and problem-solving, team fit discussions, and sometimes meetings with senior leaders about your leadership experience and future vision. Some roles might have a final chat with the CTO or VP of Engineering. If you pass, you get an offer with salary and benefits, and you can negotiate. Finally, they'll do a background check and ask for references.

I had two initial interviews. The first was a coding interview, with questions sourced from LeetCode medium or HackerRank. The second was a 1-hour technical interview focusing on high-level AI concepts and the specifics of the role. Both interviews were conducted over Google Meet with cameras on, and the interviewer was nice.

So my interview process kinda changed a bit midway cuz the team was like, 'we're not sure what we're looking for.' After I passed the ML rounds, the recruiter hit me up and said they decided to add LC style DS/algorithms coding interviews too. They told me to expect an easy/medium LeetCode problem. I ended up getting a hard one and then got rejected.
