Mechanical Engineering Intern
So I had 1 screening interview and then 2 technical interviews. The technical interviews were about 30-45 minutes each, via phone and video call. They really dug deep into my resume and asked technical questions about my projects to make sure I was really involved in them. Like, I talked about a mechatronics project and they asked me about different kinds of motors, how to pick one, and how to test it.
- Could you outline the key distinctions between DC motors and Stepper motors?
- What were your specific contributions to the mechatronics project you mentioned?
- What types of motors did you explore for your mechatronics project?
Mechanical Engineer
The interview process was really straightforward. I reached out to the recruiter on LinkedIn about the positions I was interested in. She got back to me about a week later and set up a 30-minute Recruiter round. After passing that, I had a 45-minute technical interview with a team member that ended up being an hour long. They liked my feedback and asked me to share my availability for a 'power day' interview with 6 people, with each interview being 45 minutes. Because of COVID, all these rounds were on Zoom or Google Meet. These interviews were with a Technical/Domain expert, Hiring manager, Supply chain manager, electronics and electrical engineer, Vehicle integration expert, and a final Recruiter round. The questions were super specific to the role and how it interacts with all these different leads. They were all about the subject matter and the job's responsibilities.
- Can you describe how you would design a cooling system for two distinct thermal masses that have different heat load requirements?
- What would be your strategy for handling suppliers who are not local and come from different cultural backgrounds?
- How would you approach a situation where the tooling is finished, but you need to make a design change?
Mechanical Engineer
I applied online and then got a call request. It was one of the worst phone calls I've ever had. The recruiter was 10 minutes late. They started with an agenda but didn't explain anything about the role or the company. They kept interrupting me. The job description said one thing and the recruiter said another. I felt like the recruiter didn't really know the role or the process. When I asked about a technical standard, the recruiter didn't seem to get my question and didn't pay attention. Honestly, my advice is don't make the candidate experience so terrible. Train your recruiters and don't make it sound like a sales pitch.
- Can you tell me about your past work experience?
- What makes you want this particular job?
- What about Nuro appeals to you?
