Research Scientist
It was a 30-minute phone chat where we went over my basic info like my degree and if I needed visa sponsorship. We also discussed my past projects that are relevant to the job and the role itself. The interviewer was great and pointed me towards the next steps.
- What makes you want to work for our company?
Machine Learning Research Scientist
So my interview process kinda changed a bit midway cuz the team was like, 'we're not sure what we're looking for.' After I passed the ML rounds, the recruiter hit me up and said they decided to add LC style DS/algorithms coding interviews too. They told me to expect an easy/medium LeetCode problem. I ended up getting a hard one and then got rejected.

Machine Learning Research Scientist
First, I had a chat with the recruiter. Then, there was a coding phone screen that lasted about 30 minutes. During the screen, I was asked to implement a directed graph class that included topological sort and cycle detection. The interviewer was really particular about how I structured the class, even though my implementation was equivalent in terms of time and memory. I tried to explain my approach, but they seemed to only understand one specific way of doing it, so I ended up implementing it their way. The second part involved writing the topological sort using the data structure I'd created. It felt less about problem-solving and more about whether I had memorized the algorithm. I think they'll find someone who's memorized it, but I doubt they'll be a good fit for an ML Research Scientist role. Honestly, given the time limit, it felt like an unreasonable question.
- Could you write a directed graph class that includes topological sort and cycle detection?
- Please implement a directed graph class with functionality to add and remove nodes and edges.
- Implement topological sort with cycle detection.
