It was a group interview with 9 other candidates. Dress smart to stand out - lots of people dressed in lounge or informal wear. Group exercises like what would you take on an abandoned shipwreck and being watched doing tasks on the shop floor. It was chilled out and no formal interview questions, then a one on one interview.

Behavioral Presentation

HR reached out about my resume and experience, then set up an interview. I had to do a SWOT analysis on a department of my choice. The interview was at their head office with two hiring managers. They were really nice and asked a lot of questions, but it felt like a conversation, which was good. I thought it went well and they liked my buying experience and presentation. HR emailed later saying they'd give feedback in a few days, but I never heard back. After I asked, they finally said I didn't seem interested in fashion because my buying background wasn't in fashion. I was bummed because that wasn't constructive and it was a jab at my personal interests, fashion being one of them, which I showed during the interview.

The interview questions were straightforward, focusing on my past experience and how my skills would fit the role. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, and they were mainly interested in my current activities, previous employment history, and how that experience would be an asset to New Look.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

So I interviewed for a role at New Look and went through a few stages. First, there was a phone interview, then a skills assessment, and finally an in-person interview that included a task. On the bright side, the interviewers were professional and made me feel welcome. I enjoyed talking about my background and learning about the company's culture. However, after the last interview, I was told that a new person who would manage the role had just joined the company the week before and wanted to be involved in the decision. I understood, but was confused why this wasn't brought up earlier. I was expecting to meet this new person the following week, either on Teams or for coffee, since I was one of two final candidates. But the next week, I was told she wouldn't be meeting me and they decided to hire someone from their network instead of moving forward with me. While I get that hiring decisions can change, it was pretty frustrating and honestly felt a bit unethical to go through all the stages only to be sidelined without even meeting her to let her compare me to her friend. It was disheartening after putting in so much time and effort. I hope this helps them improve the process for future candidates so they don't waste their time like I did.
