Behavioral Technical System Design

The hiring process had 3 rounds, with rounds 2 and 3 happening on the same day. Round 1 was a casual intro chat about goals and culture fit, like a 'getting to know you' to see if my career path aligned with the company's vision. Round 2 dove deeper into my project work, how I team up with others, and halfway through we switched to English to get ready for the final technical part. Round 3 was the technical challenge, fully in English with someone from outside Greece. I had to design a website questionnaire system on the whiteboard, covering both the user-facing frontend and the backend data processing and storage.

Behavioral Technical Presentation Case Group

A recruiter reached out on LinkedIn to kick things off. My second interview was with a Manager who clearly laid out what to expect. The third interview involved a deep dive and presentation of a case study, and I was interviewed by other product managers. The final call was supposed to be a casual chat about Culture Fit, but it turned out to be an unpleasant, more intense experience than I anticipated. They asked about my past experience in detail, but then threw in a curveball asking "what's the difference between a consultant and client". I felt blindsided because it wasn't informal at all, even though some level of questioning was expected. Surprisingly, there were no questions about UCD, product mindset, successes, or failures, nor about my motivations or ambitions. They seemed really focused on the office presence requirement (2 days a week), which they stressed again. It's a pity because it felt like they were looking for something specific that wasn't communicated. I was interviewed by the head of UCD and Product. Ultimately, I didn't get an offer after these multiple interviews because I apparently didn't focus enough on "strategy", only deliverables and outputs, which is odd for such a short conversation. They talked a lot about being "scrappy" and flexible, and described product managers as the "lead singer", which I found weird given the UCD/Product dynamic. I'm not sure it's right to have a service designer, even an experienced one, have the final say in a hiring decision. They say they're scrappy and want the best talent, but I think they should consider multiple perspectives in hiring, or just let the manager decide after fewer interviews. The recruiting team was responsive, provided details, and was timely.

Technical Coding

Their recruiter reached out and we had a chat where they gave me info about the job and company, and I told them about my background. Then I got an assignment to build 3 pages using Angular. They offered extra points for using GIT, unit testing, performance profiling, and adding comments. After that, I talked with two senior devs who were cool and asked me a bunch of stuff about the assignment, like how I could make it better. I made notes on what I could improve for next time. The assignment was due in a week. Seems like for European projects they really care about testing and performance.

Behavioral Technical Case

The entire hiring process spanned about 10 days. I applied via LinkedIn Easy Apply, and a recruiter contacted me the next day. Initially, I had a basic interview in English with a recruiter located in Belgium. Following that, two interviews were scheduled consecutively: an introductory one with a Senior Tester from the Greek team, and then a Test Case discussion with the automation team leader. All interviewers were supportive and patient, addressing all my questions. While some preparation was needed on my end, the interviews were manageable.
