Account Manager
I thought I was interviewing for a C-level role at first. They wanted me to do six rounds for an Account Manager position that paid £58k. The stages were: 1) Initial screener with HR 2) Interview with Team Lead 3) Interview with Sales Lead 4) Panel interview with Team Lead, Sales Lead and CS Lead, where I had to give a presentation covering 3 questions 5) Interview with BD Country Manager 6) Interview with Regional Head of Sales. I made it to round 5, but they rejected me because my presentation wasn't what they expected for a Mixpanel presentation. The pressure for job applicants to present like they are current employees is getting way too unrealistic. If you want someone to be immediately productive, just hire internally. The whole process from applying to rejection took about 4 months, and communication was spotty. I definitely dodged a bullet.

Analyst
The first call was fine, but the rest of the interview process was awful. I would seriously advise against interviewing with this company. I met with some of the higher-ups and it was incredibly disrespectful. One person actually put their head down and started laughing while I was answering a question. Even though I was working from home and there are always distractions, this was one of the least professional interviews I've ever experienced. It felt like a lot of egos and a lack of real leadership. I went through the whole process, including assessments and interviews, and they said they'd contact me by a specific date but never did. Honestly, it was disrespectful and unprofessional, so don't waste your time.

Technical Support Engineer
So, my interview at Mixpanel was kinda weird to start. A recruiter hit me up via email, saying they wanted to move me forward, but then they immediately asked me to do this timed, 30-minute take-home test before I even talked to anyone. I was hesitant to do work without a chat first, but I decided to give it a shot, put a good amount of effort into it, and sent it back quick. But, that was it. I never heard back. I sent two follow-up emails over the next week and a half and got zero response, not even a rejection. I never got to talk to anyone there directly either. The whole thing felt really impersonal and like they just dismissed me. It’s rough as a candidate to put time and effort into an assignment and then not even get a reply. If Mixpanel really cares about good customer support, their hiring process should show that same kind of attention and communication.
- Could you explain how to interpret a funnel graph, detailing the distinctions between step-to-step conversion rates and overall conversion rates, given a screenshot from Mixpanel?
- How would you handle a scenario where a customer reported that their funnel report was not as expected or showed unexpected user drop-offs?
- Can you share an example of a challenging technical support issue you successfully resolved?
Senior Software Developer
I was reached out to about a Senior Developer position. It didn't quite line up with my recent experience in a management role, but I thought, hey why not. I've used the product quite a bit and I think the specific tasks for this role seem interesting. They really put me through the ringer. A hiring manager screen, technical rounds, more soft skill rounds, and even a portfolio review! This last interview is extremely uncommon for any engineering position, but they needed to know that I had many intersecting design and leadership skills--including the ability to present and persuade. It was a perfect fit for me personally, really quite tailored to my background. Which is rare. It sounded like they required the same for other candidates, which I can imagine being a little frustrated about if they didn't have my exact experience and strengths. Anyway, what really helped me shine was the incredibly helpful talent partner, who did absolutely everything in their power to set me up for success. They were honest, transparent, and made themselves fully available to me for any questions I had. They also updated me like clockwork on feedback and status. When I had concerns, they got the VP to talk through it with me directly, who I'm sure is a very busy person. This was also very much appreciated. When interviewing with several opportunities, you really get a full spectrum of professionalism and competence. I can speak with authority when I say that interviewing at Mixpanel has been a highlight for me, despite being quite an intense process.
