The interview process started with an initial screening, followed by an interview with a SEIII engineer. Then there was a take-home assignment. After that, a lengthy 2.5-hour interview was conducted with three members of the organization. This was followed by a rejection letter. The rejection feedback cited a lack of experience, which I found to be a shallow HR explanation given my extensive experience with the role and tools. It took them a month to provide this feedback, raising questions about their competence or honesty. Ultimately, I feel I avoided a negative work environment.

So, my interview at Mixpanel was kinda weird to start. A recruiter hit me up via email, saying they wanted to move me forward, but then they immediately asked me to do this timed, 30-minute take-home test before I even talked to anyone. I was hesitant to do work without a chat first, but I decided to give it a shot, put a good amount of effort into it, and sent it back quick. But, that was it. I never heard back. I sent two follow-up emails over the next week and a half and got zero response, not even a rejection. I never got to talk to anyone there directly either. The whole thing felt really impersonal and like they just dismissed me. It’s rough as a candidate to put time and effort into an assignment and then not even get a reply. If Mixpanel really cares about good customer support, their hiring process should show that same kind of attention and communication.

First, there was a remote screening interview. After that, I had a 30-minute take-home assignment where I had to complete a mock support ticket. Lastly, I had some Zoom interviews with 3 people from the team, including the team leader and the head of the department.
