First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at L.E.K. Consulting.
Consultant
The process involved two rounds of interviews. Round 1 had two 45-minute interviews, focusing on case and behavioral questions, typical for consulting case interviews. Round 2 consisted of three 45-minute cases, including a standard case, an executive summary case, and a work planning activity. These cases were varied and presented their own unique challenges.
- Tell me about an impactful experience you've had.
- Can you share another example of when you made a significant impact?
- Describe a situation where you drove a considerable impact.
Consulting Intern
Super quick process, wrapped up in about 2-3 weeks. Started with a call with HR, then two back-to-back interviews with consultants, and finished with an interview with a Partner. The interviews focused on classic consulting case questions, including both fit and a case study.
- How do you handle personal fit questions and a case study on cost reduction?
- Tell me about yourself and a case study on cost reduction.
- Can you walk me through your experience, and we'll do a case study on cost reduction?
Data Scientist
Submitted CV and cover letter. First round was a numerical reasoning test, GMAT style questions including Data Sufficiency. It was mostly irrelevant to Data Science concepts. Felt insulting preparing for a test not used in standard DS processes. Administered through Zoom with ID check. Only one slot, which was rescheduled due to client commitments despite being proctored by HR. Few applicants in the Zoom session, so using leetcode or ML questions would have been possible. Signals the firm isn't serious about Data Science, especially after asking for MSCs in Stats/Data Science. Job reposted a week after the test, and forums suggest candidates were rejected for low scores compared to a sample population. Assume they didn't find suitable candidates, comparing Data Scientists to general consulting candidates who are more familiar with numerical reasoning tests. There's irony in not blocking tests by candidate type, a fundamental statistical error. Withdrew due to the circus of the first stage and dehumanizing ID check, worse than Jane Street's system. Prep can be a time sink for more meaningful opportunities.
- GMAT Maths questions, including Data Sufficiency.
Associate
It's usually 3 rounds. Round 1 is HR, asking about your interest in consulting, why not finance, and specifically why LEK. They'll also ask about company culture and your fit. It ends with a 5-min guesstimate. Round 2 is more HR and case solving, but the cases aren't standard like profitability or market entry, they're different. This one's 30-45 mins. The last round is all about whether you're workable for the company. If you don't mess up badly, you'll likely get an offer.
- Estimate the number of popcorns sold in 10 theaters across NY, LA, Miami, and California.
