I had a phone screen with the in-house Recruiter at Kirkland Ellis. The recruiter was completely lack luster. I wanted to say, "Wake Up!" Something was off with her demeanor, and come to find out a couple months later, she was no longer with the company. As an HR person myself, I know how important it is to have a recruiter serve as a brand ambassador. It was a disappointing experience especially, because I know that I was perfect for the job. But I got a bad recruiter.

The interview process was long and felt disjointed. It required a lot of follow-up with HR and the hiring manager. It seemed like they were interested in hiring others and I had to chase them. I suspect this was to avoid discrimination lawsuits, especially since I was clearly more qualified than the candidates they seemed to favor. It's disappointing how they make minorities chase jobs and offer them less pay. There's even a legal case against them for this exact issue.

The interview started with a 20-minute phone screener with a recruiter. After that, there were supposed to be 1-2 formal interviews with attorneys. Unfortunately, I was rejected after the screening interview, which is fine, but I was ghosted after the recruiter explicitly told me I had moved on. The communication wasn't great because the screener was rescheduled the day of and my follow-ups went unanswered.

I had 2 interviews over 3 weeks. First was a 30 min Zoom with HR who was a bit late. I also had to do an Excel skills test online. Then a 1 hour Zoom with the Revenue Team, split into 30 mins with Supervisors and Associate Director, and 30 mins with the Revenue Director. Got a call about a week later saying they hired someone else.
